Job Description
Sentry Insurance is seeking a highly-skilled and experienced commercial lines underwriting professional to support the strategic operations of Sentry's commercial lines operations as a Corporate Underwriting & Product Specialist-CL. This subject matter expert will do market research, competitor analysis and develop products that will support Sentry's business strategy, to meet annual growth and profitability objectives. This role will focus on casualty lines of business, such as general liability and umbrella.

What You'll Do

  • Act as the subject matter expert and owner for issues relating to product development, underwriting, growth, and profitability for assigned line(s) of business.

  • Work with your business partners to develop new products and plans that enhance existing products which support Sentry's business strategy.

  • Develop underwriting guidance for specific products, lines of coverage and market segments.

  • Participate in file reviews and underwriting audits.

  • Analyze and research new and current products to determine product success and failures.

  • Maintain knowledge of current market trends, including competitor rate and product changes, compliance issues and legislative regulations.

  • May identify products requiring risk transfer alternatives (reinsurers).

  • Works with business partners on new computer system development and implementation.

  • Collaborate with business partners in actuarial, claims, underwriting, IT and Analytics to develop coverage solutions.

  • Draft coverage forms, endorsements, and associated rules.

What it Takes

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of related work experience. Experience with commercial underwriting or claims is preferred.

  • The attainment of one or more industry designations such as CPCU, ARM or CIC is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated technical insurance background and knowledge of underwriting practices and procedures and insurance industry practices.

  • Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to independently research complex issues, practices, and theories.

  • Strong time management, written and verbal skills.

  • Knowledge of Sentry's insurance products, distribution system, and markets is beneficial.

  • Ability to work effectively to collaborate within a team environment and across related units, displaying sensitivity to other departments' needs.

  • Effective organizational skills, human relations, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
